6. Insomnia


For hundreds of years, nutmeg was applied as a go to home remedy for insomnia. Just put pinch of nutmeg into some warm milk always worked well for many.  Nutmeg is high in magnesium which is an essential mineral that reduces nerve tension, and also promotes the release of serotonin creating feelings of relaxation or sedation. This serotonin changes to melatonin within the brain.  That can induce sleep thereby relieving insomnia and restlessness at night.  Nutmeg contains trace elements found in narcotics, which have no dramatic effect unless you take nutmeg in massive amounts.  Nonetheless the small amount in nutmeg can help you release various neurotransmitters bringing relaxation and sleep.


7. Leuiemia


Another surprising quality of nutmeg is its potential use against cancer cells. Studies have found that some methanol related compounds in nutmeg and its essential oil can in fact induce cell death (apoptosis) in leukemia cells. This brings the hope of stopping the spread of this cancer and its metastasis that commonly afflicts children.
