19. Garlic and Longevity

longevity

It basically becomes impossible to prove the effects on longevity in humans.

However if you consider the positive effects that garlic has on risk factors like high blood pressure, most can see that it makes sense that garlic may help increase longevity.

Considering that it fights infectious disease presents an important factor, because these commonly cause death, especially when you think about elderly people with compromised immune systems.

20. Athletic Performance Improvement

athletic performance

Garlic was one of the earliest substances used for performance enhancing.

Ancient cultures used garlic to reduce fatigue and enhance the work capacity of labourers.

It was administered to Olympic athletes in ancient Greece.

Rat studies demonstrated that garlic helps with exercise performance and endurance.  That being said few human studies have been done.  But it would seem to indicate garlic’s helpfulness in this regard.

Subjects with heart disease that took garlic oil for 6 weeks had a reduction in peak heart rate of 12% and improved their exercise capacity.
But, a study involving nine competitive cyclists could find no performance benefits.  This was a small study though.  Other studies suggest that exercise-induced fatigue may be reduced with garlic.
